DESIGNING VILLA ADRIANA, ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION
This project encompasses the design of a new cultural pavilion alongside the restoration of key areas of Hadrian’s Villa, including the Northern Theatre, the Temple of Venus of Cnidus, and the Baths. The architectural intervention is complemented by a broader cultural strategy and the development of a new visual identity for the archaeological site, reinforcing its legibility and public presence.
The restoration is guided by principles of compatibility and reversibility, strict respect for the authenticity of the archaeological remains, and a commitment to minimal intervention, avoiding any alteration of the Villa’s historical image. Particular attention is given to achieving full accessibility across the site, ensuring inclusive access while preserving its integrity.
At Hadrian’s Villa, landscape functions as a fundamental construction material: conceived as a garden-villa, the complex was designed around carefully orchestrated views toward the surrounding hills. By restoring accessibility and continuity within the park, the project reactivates these visual relationships, offering new perspectives on the archaeological remains and their natural setting.
