LEUCOSIA AND THE OTHERS

“Leucosia e le altre”, conceived by artist Nello Ferrigno, was developed through a process of decomposition and reduction applied to the elemental forms of a tree trunk and its branches. The supporting structure of the trunk consists of a system of UPN steel profiles, clad in 8 mm thick Corten steel sheets, forming a conical shape that reaches a height of 7 meters. The metal structure is secured to a reinforced concrete foundation plate.

The work is an ode to love and women. The installation transforms the tree into a stage for the sirens, where mythology, color, and form converge to create a narrative space for reflection on desire, enchantment.

“This installation tells the story of the siren Leucosia, who, along with her sisters Partenope and Ligea, tried to tempt Ulysses in the sea of our gulf. These beings from Greek mythology were birds with the head and breasts of a woman, and when their attempt to seduce Odysseus failed, they let themselves drown in the sea. The body of Leucosia (my siren) was found on a small islet near Castellabate, which bears her name: Licosa. I represented the sirens as colorful birds perched on the tree of life, so that every ‘new Ulisse’ can recognize, among them, the one who enchanted him.”
