D. GALLERY FOR DISORDER ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL
D. GALLERY is an installation designed for an illustration exhibition as part of the 7th edition of the Disorder Rock Music Festival. The festival, held annually at the Sant’Antonio Arena in Eboli since 2010, opened in 2017 for the first time to art forms beyond music. On this occasion, Amor Vacui Studio was invited to design an exhibition space for a collection of illustrations created specifically for the event by a group of artists.
The installation was required to be modular and easy to dismantle for storage. Beyond these basic constraints, we were given complete creative freedom. We selected an area adjacent to the main stage, typically dark and underused, and transformed it into a new exhibition space. The need to illuminate the artworks became an opportunity to define the boundaries of the exhibition with a single architectural gesture.
Constructed from steel frames and integrated LED strips, the installation both lights its surroundings and creates a welcoming open-air lounge. Its simple yet expressive configuration as a sequence of arches makes it visible from a distance while lending an architectural character to the space, conceptually borrowed the nearby monastery. The luminous strip neither competes with nor is overwhelmed by the concert lighting; instead, it establishes a balanced presence in the background of the stage, offering a new and radiant frame for the festival as a whole.
D. Gallery has remained in use ever since, hosting and displaying different art over the years.
